When did you start training Jiu-jitsu?
| |
I started in October of '95
Do you find that training with the kimono helps to prepare you for NHB style tournaments? If so, how?
| |
Yes and no. I like training with the Kimono because it helps make you a more technical fighter. But you must still train without it to be good in no-gi or MMA
How does your training differ when preparing for an NHB fight from regular training?
| |
I work more cardio. I split my training more evenly between Grappling and Striking.
How is the training in Australia compared to here in the US and in Brazil?
| |
The training is good, but we don't have the number of competitors and training partners that the US And Brazil have. We alos have less gyms to train at and less qualified teachers. But everyday that changes.
Do you think getting a black belt in BJJ will have more to do with sport jiu-jitsu for you than NHB?
| |
Yes I do. But the achievements in NHB/MMA still count towards my skill in jiu-jitsu.
Do you plan to re-enter the Octagon? If so, is a rematch with Tito on your priority list?
| |
Yes I do plan to re-enter the Octagon. I would like the chance to rematch Tito, but I am also aware that I must earn that opportunity. My goal is to fight the best and win.
What things would you do different to prepare for that fight?
| |
My preparation was fine. I would like to have done more time with a cage. What I think I needed to change was my game plan and attitude.
I noticed you were announcing at the last UFC, is a carreer in broadcasting in your future?
| |
I think I have a skill in that area and would like to do more when it does not conflict with my fighting.
A lot of fans say there has been a problem with some of the descions made by UFC judges recently, for example - Murilo vs. Liddell. What are your opinions on the judging standards for the UFC event?
| |
When you let a match go to the Judges you are partly responsible. If you don't like the decision, finish the fight. I do think that with the time the judges will get better as they learn more about the sport. Close matches will always have controversy somewhere.
When you train with the gi, what percentage of standup to groundwork to you practice?
| |
It's hard to break it down so precisely. I work on what I think I need to do at the time. That changes everytime I train.
Do you have any favorite techniques? (elaborate a little if possible)
| |
I really enjoy submissions. I am very good from the guard with armbars and triangles. I also am very good with leg locks. My new move is the Kimura which I am enjoying as well.
Thank you for the opportunity to have my say. I would just like to quickly thank my sponsors
